440cc injectors can be a real pain to control with a front sided MAF Calibrator.
We have worked out a real kick ass setup for fueling and tuning a turbo 5vz. It is our new URD 5vz Turbo Port Fueler. You can fuel any HP level you want and it is super easy to tune it looks like you can build one map to cover lots of different boost levels so you can crank boost on the fly and the tune is already there. It is new and I am convinced that it is the way to go for fueling a turbo 5vz. You run on the stock injectors for normal driving, start up, warm up, and EMMISSIONS testing, then when your pour the coals to it, the Port Fueler takes over fueling the boost just like a speed densitiy system. We clamp the stock system down so it won't interfer with your boosted tune.
I am sure you have seen pictures of the setup on Sean's turbo SRunner.
Anyway, if you need any help chasing down the gremlins, let me know. We have systems on lots of different turbo trucks now and more on the way!!
I can wait a couple of days for that manifold picture so you can take that turbo and down pipe off and out of the way....

| wow, yes you did do a lot of research and you sound very capable not just talk...I have same exact truck except its a 2002 with about 60k on it. I was thinking about the S/C cuz i want more power but i have been hesitant cuz i dont want the engine to blow out after 20k, a lot of people just slap the $2500 S/C on, and think they are golden, but i know fuel and exhuast like you have said is a major factor in not only performance but also the motor not blowing up. First off how much did that whole set up cost, and what would be your advice to me on the mods i should get that are fairly easy to install if i was to go with the S/C. |

EXCELENT JOB!! this is by far one of the best setups that I have yet to see. I am in a similar project with twin turbos and I Must agree that one of the best ways to tune these things are with a standalone management unit. I also was looking into the megasquirt unit but I couldn't get much feed back on the topic. The only problem that I see with the unit was I wanted to raise my rev limiter a slight but but I wasn't positive that it was possible to do with the unit. And then you can convert it over to an EDIS system and put some strong coil packs to help with the spark. Just something that has been sitting in my head for a while. Also what are the turbo specs that you are running on that, it looks like a huge exhaust housing.

| The turbo is a T04E 50 trim, .58 P trim turbine. It starts to make positive pressure at just over 2000 rpms, and hits 10 lbs by around 2850. I haven't watched it that closely, so I could be wrong. I'm waiting for an inductive clamp so I can hook up my AuxBox and log all the data during a few tuning runs. |

| Great setup, and great attention to detail! I was just wondering if you've had it to a dyno, what the results were, and what kind of boost you get on 93 (sorry you're in Cali right?) 91 octane? |

When I first finished the project and had the tuning fairly well dialed in, I took it to a local dyno shop to lay down some numbers. Unfortunately, the shop air/fuel sensor equipment was screwed up somehow and kept reading lean. I have my own air/fuel sensors and I had set the tune pretty rich but the dyno guys wouldn't run it to anywhere close to redline even though they tried many times, adjusting their equipment to try to get decent readings.
No go.
The best pull was to just 3800 RPMs, which hit 289 horsepower at the wheels. I don't remember the torque number. That was at 8 lbs of boost, if my memory is correct.
I've done more tuning since then (and turned up the boost to around 13.5), and I plan on going to another shop with calibrated equipment and doing some runs. I'll publish those results once and for all. |
